Srinagar, Dec 19 (KNO): Mirwaiz and head of the Mutahida Majlis-e-Ulema Molvi Muhammad Umar Farooq Friday condemned Bihar Chief Minister’s act of pulling off Hijab of a woman doctor, describing it as a grave violation of personal dignity and moral boundaries. According to a statement, issued to news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO), during his address at Jama Masjid, Srinagar, he said that no position of authority, power, or office grants the right to interfere with another person’s self-respect. He emphasised that when dignity is violated in public—particularly by someone in authority—it sends a deeply troubling message that power can override ethics and basic human values. He expressed regret that instead of apologising for his actions certain political parties and sections of the media are attempting to justify the act of the Bihar CM by mischaracterising it as an issue of “women’s empowerment”, deliberately dragging the debate into the question of hijab. He said such diversions are mischievous, and further expose the bigoted mindset of those indulging in it and their limited understanding of Islam. Mirwaiz said that for Muslim women who wear hijab, it is a matter of faith, identity, and personal choice which has never been a barrier to education, professional excellence, or social contribution as is being deliberately implied to justify the CM’s actions. He pointed out that women who wear hijab have, across the world made outstanding achievements in every sphere of life, proving that empowerment lies in equal opportunity and hard work not in the manner of dressing. Mirwaiz said that that proprietary demands that the CM of Bihar apologises to the lady for his action and those indulging in these ridiculous justifications stop imposing ideological labels or justifying acts under the garb of so called “progress”—(KNO)
